Since the death of the former Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi on October 20th 2011, attention has shifted to his equally elusive children. With the rumor mill more active than ever, at least one of his sons, Saif al-Arab has been reported dead. But what about the rest of his family?

Le Seychellois Hebdo has received unconfirmed reports that four of Gaddafi’s grandchildren are currently in hiding in Seychelles.

The four girls aged between 11 and 17 years have been in the country for the past two to three months. According to our sources, they are residing in a resort in west Mahé.

It is not clear who are the parents of the four Sheikhas. They apparently got here after travelling from Libya via Uganda and Kenya.

The most revealing information however, is that their entrance in the country has been orchestrated and facilitated by a Minister and his Principal Secretary.

It is believed procedures are already in motion to settle them permanently in the country.

In a recent interview, Gaddafi’s only daughter Aisha spoke of the strong ties between her deceased father and his grandchildren.

"Yes, he is busy, has a heavy schedule. But he has also made it a rule to himself to give as much time as possible to his family; he gives quite a lot of time to his grandchildren and his sons.

When we get together it is normal, normal life. But now the grandchildren take the spotlight, they take most of the time,” says Aisha, nicknamed ‘the Claudia Schiffer of North Africa’ and who has reportedly escaped to Algeria.

The Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi had a big family. He was married twice and had seven sons, one daughter and two adopted children.

He was first married to Fathia Khaled, a teacher. Their marriage lasted only 6 months, but they have a son named Muhammad al-Gaddafi. Then the former Libyan Leader married his second wife Safia Farkash, who was his nurse.

Gaddafi’s oldest child with Safia is Saif al Islam al Khaddafi. His other children are Saadi Gaddafi, Muttassim Gaddafi, Hannibal Gaddafi, Saif al-Arab Gaddafi, Khamis Gaddafi and Aisha al Gaddafi. His adopted children are Hannah, who was killed in 1986 when the U.S. bombarded Gaddafi’s residence, and Abbazia Milad al-Gaddafi.

Seychelles enjoyed close political ties with the Great Libyan Arab Jamahiriya before the death of Gaddafi. President Michel visited Libyia in April 2010 and the north African country’s petrodollars were used to settle Seychelles’ arrears with the African Union before its readmission.
